Vinuity blend: Increase Job Satisfaction via Emotional Intelligence and Agility

Studies have shown that increased job satisfaction leads to increased productivity and organizational citizenship behavior, and decreased turnover and absenteeism (Kafetsios & Zampetakis, 2008).  This difference in sub-optimal performance costs the IT industry millions, if not billions of dollars per year.  Studies have shown that the turnover cost alone for an IT professional is equivalent to 50-75% of a year’s salary (Latimer, 2002).  That turnover cost includes separation, acquisition, and knowledge transfer and training cost.  If you include absenteeism and decrease intangibles such as productivity and decrease organizational citizen behavior, the cost can easily mount beyond just the 50-75% annual salary lost.

Recently, studies have suggested that high emotional intelligence leads to increased job satisfaction (Nikkheslat, Saleki, Asgharian, & Hojabri, 2012).  There is also research that suggests agility in IT also leads to an increase in job satisfaction (cite).  Both of these relationships have been exploited by the IT industry in the form of training its employees in emotional intelligence and agile methodologies.

Currently, the two focuses on people (emotional intelligence) and process (agile methodology) have been treated separately; but,Vinuity works to help organizations see relationships between emotional intelligence and agility on job satisfaction. In addition, we help organizations understand the combination of these two variables will have a multiplicative effect on job satisfaction.  Contact us ( eduction@vinuity.com ) to have a conversation about how we can help you to better focus on your people, improve the team and individual emotional intelligence, and create a more Agile organization.
