The client, a global technology organization, had a history of not been able to manage cross-domain efforts successfully needed a way to implement a corporate PCI Compliance solution that spanned multiple business domains in multiple locations in North America and Europe.
The risk of successfully delivering mission critical projects across multiple domains in a large organization is becoming increasingly more difficult as the legal complexities and competitive requirements place more demands on already stretched staff. Provide Program Control efforts to reduce risk and successfully deliver the business critical PCI project as timelines were shrinking and compliancy issues were increasing.
A Project Control solution was put in place to meet the client needs. An experienced and certified Project Management Professional (PMP) assumed the role of Program Manager to assist the client. Working closely with the corporate security group, this individual led the cross-domain efforts. Initial efforts were the essential foundation steps to creating success. These efforts included integration of typically siloed project teams into a single team environment. As the PMP continued progress, he established communication lines with executive leadership to increase awareness, facilitated effective team communications that fostered the “one team spirit”, and implemented performance metrics that focused management attention on potential problems.
The PCI compliance effort has met timelines and cross-domain coordination was successfully accomplished. This solution has set precedence in spanning business units and has set a model for exemplary project control. Further assistance has been requested to continue supporting new PCI efforts in additional domains.
